Obverse
The large coat of arms of the Republic of Latvia, with the
year 2006 inscribed below, is placed in the centre. The
inscriptions LATVIJAS and REPUBLIKA, each arranged in a
semicircle, are above and beneath the central motif
respectively.
Reverse
A pinecone above a horizontal line is featured in the upper
part of the coin. The numeral 1, with the inscription LATS in
a semicircle, is arranged in the lower part.
Edge
Two inscriptions LATVIJAS BANKA (Bank of Latvia), separated
by rhombic dots.
When the air starts to smell of snow, fir-trees and pies with
bacon stuffing and Jack Frost adorns our window panes with
intricate patterns of ice, we all have expectations of
something unusual to happen. The Christmas miracle may even
take the shape of a coin with a pinecone, which, having
scattered its seeds for the sake of a new forest, is ready to
enhance the Christmas tree and seems to even resemble one
slightly.
